Golden Apple Award Winner 2013: Cindy Clingman

Cindy Clingman is our go-to- guide for correct protocol, history, and the latest in Michigan educational issues.  Cindy has been President of both MRA and KRC, and continues to lead as our Legislative Chair.  To stay involved in promoting literacy in the area, she also works as an Instructional Coach for the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators.  Any teacher who is touched by Cindy’s wisdom and professionalism is indeed lucky.  Tim Saunders who had the opportunity to work with Cindy while they prepared a video illustrating Kent Reading Council’s history last year had this to say: “Cindy was absolutely invaluable in helping prepare the 50th anniversary video.  It’s evident to all who know her that the KRC, MRA, and IRA are cherished organizations to her, and she is a tireless worker and advocate on their behalf.”
Past President Robin McQueen has found Cindy to be knowledgeable about legislative issues regarding reading and teaching.  In Robin’s words: “Cindy has been most helpful behind the scenes at Kent Reading Council and Reading Rocks in Rockford, MRA, and IRA.  She is quiet and humble, but has a wealth of knowledge.”
Kent Reading Council has presented a Golden Apple to an individual or group who has demonstrated extraordinary effort and innovation in promoting literacy in Kent county.  These recipients have gained the respect and appreciation of the members of this organization. It is an honor to present this award to Cindy Clingman.  Congratulations and thank you for making a positive difference in our world!
