Jennifer Arnswald

Jennifer Arnswald talked to us about integrating literacy into science instruction.  In science here has been a shift from delivering content to students to engaging students in experiences where they are analyzing, evaluating, and explaining phenomena.

Below is a graphic that shows the overlap between the ELA Common Core Standards, Common Core Math Practice Standards, and the Next Generation Science standards. This graphic highlights the higher level thinking students are called to do within all of the standards.

Purposeful reading in science includes:

  •  Questioning
  • Invesigating
  • Communicating
  • Evaluating
